There are certain things in life we say are “bad,” but are they?
I think we too often jump to the conclusion that something is inherently bad. Social media for example. We all know that the bigger opinion of it, is that it’s bad and has very little use to us. And because of that we tend to judge those who use social media daily. While I will agree that there are parts of it that invite bad, overall it’s just simply a tool. It’s not good or bad. It’s how we use it. We are really what decides if it’s good or bad. The important thing is to know what our intentions are. I have found that social media is very beneficial for me, and many others. And there are also a large amount of those who should distance themselves from it. But the fact is, it’s not the thing, it’s the person. We need to know ourselves and our limitations more than we need to know that something is “bad” because it’s doesn’t work for us. And then again, we judge those who feel otherwise.
This life is full of tools that we can use to enrich our lives, and just because some use tools that are different, or even opposite from others, does not mean any are good or bad. They’re just there.
People are also not good or bad. We’re really just a mix of both. Many of us label ourselves as bad when we make mistakes, but that’s not how it works. We’re people doing our best to live well and that, is good.
Other examples are food, drinks, TV, video games, as well as rest.
All of these subjects and been placed under a microscope and torn apart, and have been said to be bad. But the plain fact is, they’re all just parts of life that, if used correctly, can be a beneficial lifestyle. Proper rest is vital to working harder. For many, video games are relaxing, and have been found to increase brain activity and processing, and to help with anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. Food is something that brings joy to life. This is a personal belief of mine, so there are foods that are healthy for your body and there are foods that are healthy for your soul, and often that’s very different. But of course, all things must be done in moderation.
We claim certain life choices are bad, and while some may just plain be bad, what we should consider more is where that person making “bad” choices was before. Maybe they’re worse, maybe better, but rarely the same. And frankly, that’s something worth being proud of. Change is good. Not the moment, but overall change is what this life is all about. We never walk a straight line. We have ups, we have downs, and everything in between.
I very strongly disagree with the idea that something was created with only bad intentions. But not only is it not our right to claim, it’s just not true.
May I just say, I think we use these titles to disregard the fact that we are the root, not the tool that is useless without our encouragement?
Now I’m not saying anyone is bad, and I definitely do not want to seem like I’m calling anyone out. But maybe I do at the same time, because these comments rub me wrong. I believe in owning up to who we are and not placing blame on something out of our control. That’s not fair, and it will leave us feeling empty and angry.
